What Do the PC Muscles Do?

Pubococcygeus

Are you ready to get started working out the equipment you will need to embark on this awesome journey of enhancing your sexuality? If so, then that journey starts off with probably some of the best muscles in your body. (At least that is what I have come to think of them as.) The pubococcygeus (pew-boh-cox-uh-jee-us) muscles, otherwise known as the PC muscles (for obvious pronunciation reasons), is a band of muscles that lie between the genitals and the anus, connecting them to your pelvis.

PC muscles are also the same muscles that control the opening and closing of the urethra and the anus, as well as the vagina (female) and the seminal canal (male). They are the muscles used when you hold your urine in when your bladder feels full. If you have ever had to pee so badly, but you do not want to miss the end of the movie, then these are the muscles you are using to clamp down on your urethra. While you are sitting there waiting to see if they all live happily ever after, you notice your hand is down there gently massaging the opening to your urethra. Have you ever wondered why it sometimes helps to hold yourself down there, and even massage a little, when you do have to pee?

Since the prostate gland, or G~Spot, which surrounds the urethra swells with stimulation, I figured that it probably helps to stimulate the prostate gland with a little massage. Consequently, the urethra gets squashed between clenched PC muscles, a swollen prostrate gland, and your hand, which staunches the flow of urine. (Lucky for you!) When you finally do find out that they all live happily ever after, and you run to the bathroom, what happens? Sometimes you can't pee! Your prostate gland is so swollen with ejaculate, and your PC muscles have been clamped so tightly around your urethra, that you actually have to let down and concentrate on relaxing. Sometimes it even helps to run some water in the bathroom sink. Imagine how good it feels when you can finally let it go. This is similar to the feeling you get when you ejaculate. Although most of the time, an outrageous orgasm accompanies the ejaculation and multiplies the pleasure considerably.

Benefits of Strong PC Muscles

Both men and women can benefit from having strong PC muscles. Men can feel their PC muscles when they bear down, as in squeezing out the last drop of urine. You can strengthen your PC muscles by lifting and lowering your penis when it is hard. Start off with a washcloth draped over your erect penis; gradually add a hand towel, and then see if you can raise and lower a bath towel, or how about a wet washcloth? Strong PC muscles in men help to stimulate the flow of blood to the penis, which in turn enhances its ability to remain erect and increases pleasure. These are the same muscles you use when you are thrusting your penis forward, deeper and deeper inside that hot, wet, juicy vagina. Mmmmm......

Strong PC muscles are essential to help a woman ejaculate and experience fuller orgasms. They also aid in getting a good strong grip on your man's penis, squeezing and massaging that orgasm right out of him. This obviously increases pleasure for both of you. With strong PC muscles, a woman can also have more control over when orgasms happen and can take responsibility for them. Childbirth is also much easier with a good set of PC muscles to aid in pushing the baby down the birth canal. Strong, healthy PC muscles for both men and women enhance your ability to ejaculate (possibly together) and increase your capacity for more powerful orgasms.

Weak PC muscles are a result of not using them, which causes them to get out of shape. You may also experience difficulty in childbirth, urinary incontinence, prolapsed uterus or bladder, and possibly be incapable of attaining orgasm or maintaining an erection. Reproductive health problems can also be a result of unfit PC muscles. I am sure you have heard that old saying plenty of times, but in this case, it is worth repeating. "Use it, or lose it." How very true. Keeping your PC muscles in shape should be a daily routine, and you will reap the benefits for years to come.

In Search of Your PC Muscles

If you are not sure where your PC muscles are, or what they feel like, then a good thing to do is to explore. Not only will you locate your PC muscles, but you can also make yourself feel good in the process. Choose a time when you can be alone for a while, such as just before bedtime, after the kids are gone, or maybe asleep. Make sure that your hands are clean, and you have no open sores or rashes. Lie down in a comfortable position with your head slightly elevated. Bend one knee, and or prop yourself up on one elbow, and get comfortable.

You can either moisten your clean index finger with saliva or use a lubricant if you prefer. Insert your moist finger into your vagina. Feel all around the sides and the bottom of the vaginal wall. Notice any difference in texture or hardness, and pay attention to any ridges in your vagina. If you press on the roof of your vagina, you will find a pleasurable spot commonly known as the G-spot, or female prostate gland. You are trying to locate your PC muscles which stretch across your body from one leg to the other, and from the back to the front. Squeeze, as if stopping the flow of urine, and feel inside where the muscles contract. Then relax the muscles. Try to isolate these muscles from the rest of your body, and concentrate on contracting these muscles while at the same time relaxing every other part of your body. Focus your attention here.

Imagine that these are the muscles that are used when ejaculating and are responsible for gripping your partner’s penis. Next, imagine squeezing a hard penis, or a dildo, or your finger with those muscles. These are the muscles that you want to strengthen to provide you with some awesome orgasms and the marvelous ability to ejaculate. Now that you have some idea of where your PC muscles are, and what they feel like, let’s get ready to practice.

Beginner’s Kegels

PC muscles are the same muscles that are exercised when doing those famous Kegels that you probably have heard about. The exercises were named after the man that developed them, Dr. Arnold Kegel. He discovered that a lot of women's urinary incontinence was eliminated with the regular use of this very simple exercise. It is good to know that your PC muscles can be strengthened with regular exercise. Both men and women will benefit from regular, daily exercise of these muscles. Keeping these muscles fit and in good working condition is essential in order to maintain your sexual health.

  1. Contract your PC muscles (squeeze like you are holding in your urine).
  2. Repeat this contracting and relaxing ten times.

Pretty easy, don’t you think? Except that you need to do them about ten times a day in order to get some results. So with that in mind, realize that the beauty of doing Kegels is that you can do them anywhere and anytime. No one will know that you are doing them except for you unless you happen to give yourself away with that sensuous grin on your face. Your PC muscles will gradually get stronger, and then you can increase the number of repetitions as well as add some variety. I'll just bet you are doing them right now, aren't you? If not, then get started.

Slow Jam Kegels

  1. Contract your PC muscles while slowly counting to four.
  2. Hold for another count of four.
  3. Then relax, while slowly releasing your PC muscles a little bit at a time.
  4. Repeat five times.

Start off doing this in addition to Beginner’s Kegels and gradually increase the contract and hold time as well as the number of repetitions.

Remember these are Slow Jam Kegels, so maybe you might want to put on your favorite slow jam CD, and contract and relax in time with the music. Shhh.......No one will ever know.

It is also a very good idea to be able to relax your PC muscles whenever you want to. Constantly maintaining contracted PC muscles may make your vagina so tight that it is difficult for an erect penis to get through. Oh no! You will have to learn to relax the muscles as well as contract them so that you can let your man in when you are ready. Once he is in, and deep enough, then you can start squeezing and contracting.

Fast and Furious Kegels

Just as their name implies:

  1. Contract and relax your PC muscles as fast as you can.
  2. Continue for about ten to fifteen seconds.
  3. Then relax, and repeat about ten times.
  4. Gradually expand the time, and do them for as long as you can before your muscles tire.
  5. Don't forget to breathe. Do this several times a day.

Pelvic Floor Kegels

This time instead of concentrating only on your PC muscles:

  1. Inhale and slowly contract your entire pelvic floor, including your abdominal muscles, your PC muscles, and your gluteus maximus muscles (buttocks).
  2. Exhale, count to five, and then push, or bear down, and slowly relax all of your muscles.
  3. Repeat this five times, gradually increasing to ten times.

This exercise will get you ready to ejaculate, by getting you in touch with what it feels like to build the pressure, release it, and let it flow.

You may not notice a difference at first, but keep on doing these exercises every day, and within a few weeks you will notice the difference, and so will your man.
